David West (New Mexico Highlands University, USA)

Title:
Agile Adaptation

Abstract:
In this talk, we will discuss the need to adapt agile on several different levels: modifying practices, adapting practices, adapting values and principles behind the practices, and adapting the culture of agile and the culture of the organization introducing agile.

Biography:
Professor David West has been involved in the Object, Agile, and Patterns communities from the beginning. He has presented papers or been an invited speaker at almost every OOPSLA/SPLASH conference, spoke at the first XP World conference and the first Agile conference and worked closely with the Hillside group (Patterns) since its founding.
He is the author of Object Thinking (Microsoft Press – O’Reilly books) and Ars Magna of Software Development and co-author of Patterns of Design (with Rebecca Rikner) and Essential Stories (with Jenny Quillien)
– the last three will be published in 2011. He has also created a unique educational program that combines agility, apprenticeship, and craftsmanship.

Title:
User-centric Design: beyond the interface

Abstract:
We will talk about how design and user-centered design has been used in the past, introduce principles of design, and then show how those principles can be used to design everything from a graphical interface, to an entire enterprise.

Biography:
Rebecca Rikner, MBA is a Master designer and founder of a design company in France. She has been involved in the Patterns community and was the organizer of a Patterns Roadshow delivered in three cities in India – initiating the patterns movement in that country. She also founded VikingPLop and led that conference in its first two years. She has extensive experience helping software professionals with user interface and user experience design. She is a change consultant and was the driving force behind a successful change project at Matsushita and has consulted with the leading business change expert, John P. Kotter.
Rebecca is currently helping a Swedish company establish itself as a global company with distributed production, marketing, and sales operations on three continents.
