Agents and Multi-Agent Systems as a Paradigm for Modelling and Engineering
Complex Software Systems (OVERVIEW Talk)

Abstract:
Decentralization of control and autonomy as well as interaction and
coordination appear as fundamental dimensions when modelling and engineering
complex software systems. Agents and Multi-Agent Systems provide an
effective level of abstraction that makes it possible to consider these
aspects as first-class when modelling, designing, developing systems. This
talk provides a brief overview of the main research topics and contributions
that I had the opportunity to develop and contribute in this context, along
with the research group at the University of Bologna and colleagues in other
universities.
CV:
Alessandro Ricci is a researcher at the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering (called DISI) at the University of Bologna, since 2006. Since
2001, he is working with the research group lead by Andrea Omicini.
Alessandro’s main research activity concerns agent-oriented programming and
the use agents and multi-agent systems as a paradigm for designing and
developing complex software systems. In the recent past, in particular
during his PhD (2001-2003) and post-doc, he worked also on coordination
models and infrastructures for multi-agent systems. On these topics, he
published several papers in international journals, conference proceedings
and books. He also served as co-organizer, PC member and reviewer of
international conferences and journals in related areas.
